ResCare Premier announces the availability of Premier Outlook, Volume 5, Issue 2, Winter 2005

San Marcos, Texas, January 30, 2006 – ResCare Premier, a leading national provider of programs and services for persons with acquired brain injury, today announces the availability of Premier Outlook, Volume 5, Issue 2, Winter 2005. The current issue, Is That Legal? Brain Injury and the Law, has been mailed to subscribers and is available online at www.Premier-Outlook.com. Additional copies may be obtained by calling 512.557.6788.

The Special Feature in this issue of Premier Outlook details the collaborative efforts between Maryland’s police department and Maryland’s Traumatic Brain Injury Demonstration Project to produce the Police Training Series: Police Interactions with Persons with Brain Injury. The project, spearheaded by Dennis O’Toole, a seasoned law enforcement veteran, and Sharon Cullinane, project director of the Maryland Traumatic Brain Injury Demonstration Project, resulted in a video and accompanying workbook that gives officers the tools necessary to quickly identify and assist individuals who have become involved in a police interaction as persons with brain injury.

“We have added an exciting new column to our publication. We believe A View from the Front Lines is a particularly pertinent topic in 2006,” states Joanne McGee, Ph.D., Managing Editor, Premier Outlook. “In this issue, we have three informative interviews, Part 2 of the three-part Arizona Experience series, plus a compilation of violence prevention tips in addition to our regular features and columns. It’s an issue full of practical information.”

In Should I Stay or Should I Go? The School, the Law, and the Child with a Brain Injury,
authors Joanne M. McGee, Ph.D., and Cynthia A. Plotts, Ph.D., discuss landmark cases and the subsequent laws passed to guarantee free and appropriate public educational services to all children with disabilities, regardless of the severity of their disability, and Child Find, a search process to locate students who would benefit from these mandated services. The Manifestation Determination is discussed as it relates to the child with a brain injury and associated behaviors that would normally result in disciplinary action.

Premier Outlook is published as a public service by ResCare Premier and is dedicated to educating, informing, and interacting with families, caregivers and rehabilitation professionals. Current circulation exceeds 35,000 and subscriptions are free to the public.
