Joanne McGee, Ph.D., and Amy Gonzales, P.A.-C., to present at the Texas Brain Injury Association’s 23rd Annual State Conference

San Marcos, Texas, August 8, 2005 – As part of ResCare Premier’s on going effort to inform our community, we would like to remind you of the upcoming Brain Injury Association of Texas’ 23rd Annual State Conference “Threshold for Change,” August 20-21, San Antonio, Texas.

The conference brings together people with brain injury, researchers, family members, service providers, brain injury advocates, staff of state and local government agencies, and students. The goals of the conference are to learn, share information and ideas, get updates on programs and services, and identify ways to build community support for individuals with brain injury and their families. Attendees may earn up to 10 CE contact hours (six on Saturday, four on Sunday). Information about registration for the conference, schedule of events, hotel accommodations, speakers, and continuing education may be obtained from the Brain Injury Association of Texas’ website at www.biatx.org.

The Brain Injury Association of Texas conference schedule includes two important presentations by ResCare Premier’s Joanne McGee, Ph.D. and Amy Gonzales, P.A.-C.

Dr. McGee will be presenting “Good Grief!” along with Carolyn Pylant, educator and mother of a son who had a TBI. Dr. McGee explains, “The presentation will address the process of grief in the unique way it is experienced by family members of brain injury survivors--AND it will address what you can do to help!”

Ms. Gonzales, Manager of Medical Services for ResCare Premier Texas, is a nationally certified and Texas licensed Physician Assistant and a Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Texas Academy of Physician Assistants and Central Texas Society of Physician Assistants. Ms. Gonzales will present “Medications Used for Behaviors After Brain Injury.” “Many individuals who survive a brain injury suffer from behavioral problems at some time during their recovery,” states Ms. Gonzales. “Psychoactive medications become an important component of the treatment regimen during those times.” Ms. Gonzales will provide valuable information on how these medications work, the side effects, and what to look for in terms of the latest medications on the market.
